Morell Takes 2nd; RMU 5th at NEC Championships

Sophomore garners best finish in program history at league final.

Daytona Beach, Fla. / LPGA International – Sophomore Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) finished second at the 2014 Northeast Conference Championships while helping the Robert Morris University women's golf team to fifth-place. The event was played on the 6,025-yard, par 72 layout at the LPGA International Champions Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
 
Morell's second-place finish was the best placement in team history, one better than Elizabeth Wenger in 2011 and Ashleigh Frieday in 2010 who both took third. Morell's 223 total, however, was seven strokes better than the score by Wenger.
 
The sophomore shot 75 in both the second and third rounds after opening competition with a one-over par 73. She tallied eight birdies in 54 holes, third best among all players in the field. Morell had birdies on the par-four 1st and par-five 16th holes.
 
Sophomore Amanda Reach (Moscow, Pa. / North Pocono) shot 86 in the final round after a 76 in round two and an 80 on the opening day. Her 242 put her in a tie for 20th. Senior Annie Bozich closed out her collegiate career with an 81. Combined with a second round 86 and opening 79, she finished 27th with a 246.
 
Freshman Chloe Wong (Vancouver, B.C. / Prince of Wales) was 30th with scores of 81, 87 and 83 (251). Sophomore Gianna Pro (Harrison City, Pa. / Penn-Trafford) came home with her best score of the weekend, 87, following scores of 93 and 89. She took 36th place.
 
LIU Brooklyn won the event with an 898 total, 26 strokes better than Saint Francis U. who shot a 924 team total. Fairleigh Dickinson (943) took third followed by Sacred Heart (955), Robert Morris (962), Wagner (968), Central Connecticut State (969) and St. Francis Brooklyn (1,028). Marisol Doglioli of LIU Brooklyn won the medalist title with a 210, six-strokes under par over 54 holes.
