Moon Township, Pa. – Robert Morris University sophomore
Halley Morell was named the Northeast Conference Women's Co-Golfer of the Year in a vote by league coaches as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon. Morell is the first Colonials women's golfer to earn the honor. She was also named to the All-NEC First Team.
Morell led the conference with a 78.0 stroke average, nearly 2.50 strokes better than the previous RMU record for season stroke average (
Jenna Rinker, 80.48, 2012-13). She played 19 rounds in nine events this season, accumulating 1,482 strokes.
The sophomore had seven top 10 finishes in nine events, more than any other player in the league. In fact, that number would place her third on the RMU career list for top 10 finishes. As she stands now, her nine career top 10 showings are second most in team history.
Morell won the 2013 RMU Colonial Classic, the lone victory of her sophomore campaign. That was the second in a string five straight top-10 finishes for her. The streak started with a 10
th place showing at the Cleveland State Invitational. Morell also had a fourth at the Dayton Fall Invitational, a fifth at the Lonnie Barton Invitaitonal and then another fourth at the Butler Spring Invitational.
The Brecksville, Ohio, native finished her season with a pair of runner-up showings at the Red Flash Invitational and the NEC Championships. Morell fired a career-low 71 in the first round of the Red Flash Invitational.
