Colonials Split A Pair of NEC Road Matches

RMU falls at Sacred Heart, rebounds to earn win at St. Francis Brooklyn

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's tennis continued its 2014 spring campaign with a split on the road, falling at Sacred Heart, 6-1, Friday before rebounding to post a 7-0 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn Saturday.

Thanks to the split the Colonials own an overall record of 4-11 in 2013-14, including a 2-2 mark in the Northeast Conference.

Against the Pioneers, RMU earned the doubles point thanks to victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. At No. 2, freshmen Diana Mirceta (Hamilton, Ontario / Glendale Secondary) and Alina Schibol (Hamburg, Germany) teamed up to post an 8-7 win over Lindsey Post and Paige Olson.

Senior Carolina Mourao Teixeira (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil / Cruzeiro) and sophomore Dounia Zinbi (Halle, Belgium / College St. Augustin) combined to defeat Nicole Rydzewski and Taylor Gurda at the No. 3 doubles flight, 8-5.

In the win over the Terriers, Mourao Teixeira knocked off Luda Lisovska at the No. 1 singles flight, 6-2 and 6-1.

Sophomore Marie-Sophie Heine (Wanze, Belgium / Saint Quirin) was one of five Colonials to earn a 6-0, 6-0 victory against St. Francis Brooklyn, as she turned he trick at the No. 2 singles flight against Jennifer Gonzalez.

Kiyoku posted the same score against Jovana Bojinovic at No. 3, Schibol defeated Dragana Dzigurski at No. 4 and Zinbi earned a win over Akulia Edwards at No. 5.

Robert Morris returns home to the North Athletic Complex for its next match against Dayton Saturday, March 29.
