Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. – May 2, 2014 – Despite a ten-save performance from senior goaltender
Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. / Century), the
Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team fell in the NEC Tournament Semifinals by a score of 17-7 against Wagner on Friday evening at the Bryant Turf Complex.
Offensively,
Robert Morris (11-6, 5-2 NEC) was led by
Jessica Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) who recorded two goals and an assist for three points in the loss.
Wagner (11-6, 6-1 NEC) opened the scoring two minutes into the contest before
Emily Jamison (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) knotted the score a minute later after converting a free-position shot.
Less than a minute after Jamison's equalizer, the Seahawks regained the lead before the Colonials responded again to tie the game, 2-2, after a goal from
Rhyan Bofinger (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West).
The next two goals would be scored by Wagner to take a 4-2 advantage with less than 20 minutes remaining in the half before
Kristin Yoviene (Easton, Md. / Saints Peter and Paul) pulled the Colonials within one, 4-3.
The Seahawks netted a pair of goals to hold a 6-3 advantage before Karwacki picked up the first of her two markers in the contest to bring RMU within two, 6-4, midway through the half.
After 12 minutes of scoreless action, Wagner embarked on a five-goal run that saw the Seahawks lead at the half, 10-4, before picking up the first goal of the second half as well.
Down 11-4,
Corey Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) ended a 20-minute scoreless streak for the Colonials to make the score 11-5 just five minutes into the second half.
After Wagner answered Karwacki's tally, the Colonials rattled off a pair of goals in a span of a minute to pull to within five after J. Karwacki netted her second and
Emma Baukhages (Gambrills, Md. / Indian Creek) got on the score sheet with ten minutes elapsed in the second half.
Baukhages' marker was the last tally for RMU as they were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest while the Seahawks found the net five more time to end the contest, 17-7.
Robert Morris ended its season with a program record 11 victories while sending its five seniors out as the winningest class in the ten-year program history that includes the program's only two trips to the NEC Tournament.
