Moon Township, Pa. –
Sophomore forward Zac Lynch (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) of the Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday, earning a spot on the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Third Team.

Lynch is the first student-athlete from the RMU men's ice hockey team to earn Academic All-America status as well as eighth overall since 2004. A manufacturing engineering major, Lynch has compiled a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA).

Selected as the program's Most Improved Player after the 2013-14 campaign by his peers, Lynch helped guide the Colonials to their first Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) Tournament championship and subsequent bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Lynch finished second for Robert Morris in scoring with 47 points, the ninth highest total in NCAA Division I in 2013-14. He finished the year with 19 goals and a team-high 28 assists and led RMU with a +21 plus/minus rating. Lynch's average of 1.12 points per game in 2013-14 ranked 26th in NCAA Division I.

Lynch recorded four short-handed goals in 2013-14, which tied him with Riley Barber of Miami and Kellen Jones of Quinnipiac for the most in NCAA Division I. During the 2014 AHA Tournament, Lynch scored a pair of goals and registered seven assists for nine points, including a pair of assists in a 7-4 win over Canisius (3/22/14) in the AHA Tournament championship game. He also produced a goal and an assist against Minnesota (3/29/14) in the NCAA Tournament.

The three teams that make up the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team feature 45 student-athletes from 10 sports, including swimming, wrestling, golf, skiing, fencing, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle and volleyball.

Lynch is one of six student-athletes honored for ice hockey, joining senior Mat Bodie of Union and junior Nick Mattson of North Dakota on the third team. Seniors Nic Dowd (St. Cloud State), Cole Ikkala (Union) and Adam Mackenzie (Air Force) each earned spots on the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Second Team.

Led by head coach Derek Schooley, Robert Morris finished with an overall record of 19-18-5 (.512) in 2013-14, including a mark of 13-9-5 (.574) in the AHA.
