Anderson Inks Pro Deal With Andrea Costa Imola

Former guard scored in double figures in 55 of his 69 career games with Colonials

Moon Township, Pa. – Former Robert Morris University men's basketball student-athlete Karvel Anderson (2012-14) signed a professional contract Sunday and will continue his basketball career with Andrea Costa Imola. The team, based in Imola, Italy, has played in LegADue, the second division of Italian professional basketball, since the 2007-08 campaign.

Anderson is the second member of the Colonials to sign a professional contract in as many years, as former forward Russell Johnson (2009-13) signed with C.B. Peñas Huesca, part of the Spanish basketball league system, in September of 2013.

The 2014 Northeast Conference Player of the Year as well as an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, Anderson led the NEC in scoring in 2013-14 by averaging 19.7 points per game while shooting 51 percent (248-for-486) from the field, including 46.3 percent (119-for-257) from beyond the arc.

Anderson is the third member of the Colonials to claim an NEC scoring title, joining former guards Myron Walker (1990-94) and Gene Nabors (1995-2000). Walker led the NEC in scoring during the 1991-92 campaign at 19.8 points per game, while Nabors accomplished the feat during the 1999-2000 season at 19.1 points per contest.

"I've been waiting for this opportunity my whole life, and it's proof of what happens when you work hard," Anderson said. "It's an unbelievable feeling to say that I'm a professional."

In 2013-14, Anderson established Robert Morris single-season school records for points (710), field goals (248), three-point field goals (119), three-point field goals made per game (3.31), double-figuring scoring games (33), 20-point scoring games (19) and 30-point scoring games (4).

"We've obviously extremely thrilled as a program that Karvel has an opportunity to continue his career professionally in Italy," head coach Andrew Toole said. "He's joining a league that is extremely competitive, and I think Karvel can certainly help Andra Costa Imola with his abilities. The level of dedication and hard work that he put in during his two years with our program was off the charts, and I believe he'll make the most of his opportunities overseas."

In two seasons at Robert Morris, Anderson scored 1,123 points, an average of 16.3 points per game. He is one of just three players in program history to eclipse 1,000 points while playing just two seasons with the Colonials. He owns career program records for three-point field goal percentage (.453) and three-point field goals made per game (2.91).

Led by Toole, who enters his fifth season at the helm of the program in 2014-15, Robert Morris owns an overall record of 163-81 (.668) over the last seven years, both a school and league record for wins over a seven-year span. During that stretch, the Colonials rank seventh among mid-major programs in victories, tied with Akron.
