Reed Garners Third NEC Rookie of the Week Accolade

Freshman guard averaged 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals in three games last week

Moon Township, Pa. – Freshman guard Marcquise Reed of the Robert Morris University men's basketball team was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week Monday. Reed is a co-recipient of the honor, as he shares the accolade with Darian Anderson of Fairleigh Dickinson.

Reed was bestowed the NEC Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and third time overall on the 2014-15 campaign after averaging 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals in three games last week. He shot 72.4 percent (21-for-29) from the field, including 50 percent (4-for-8) from beyond the arc, and 81.8 percent (9-for-11) at the free-throw line.

In RMU's final non-conference game of the 2014-15 season @ Clemson (12/30/14), Reed scored a game-high 21 points off the bench, finishing 9-for-14 from the floor. He also added four rebounds and three steals.

Reed helped the Colonials earn a 70-45 victory over Mount St. Mary's (1/3/15) in their NEC opener by contributing 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Two nights later, Reed scored a game-high 22 points @ Saint Francis U. (1/5/15), hitting eight of his nine shots from the field and going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. He also added three steals.

Over his last seven games, Reed has supplied the Colonials with averages of 17.3 points and 2.4 steals while shooting 63.4 percent (45-for-71) from the field. Overall on the 2014-15 campaign, Reed leads Robert Morris in scoring at 13.8 points per contest, which ranks eighth in the NEC. He also ranks third in the league in field goal percentage (.533) and second in steals (2.0 per game).

Led by fifth-year head coach Andrew Toole, RMU continues a three-game road trip with a 9:00 p.m. tip against Wagner at the Spiro Sports Center on Staten Island, N.Y., in a game that will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
