Robert Morris set for first-ever series with Michigan

Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Robert Morris University men's hockey is in Ann Arbor for its' first-ever series with No. 10 Michigan (3-0-1, 0-0-0 B1G). The Colonials (2-0-2, 2-0-2 AHC) are coming off an 8-2 win at Niagara University, where senior forward Greg Gibson netted his first career hat trick as 9 players tallied points in the victory.

ROBERT MORRIS QUICK HITS
-   The Colonials return seven of their top nine forwards from the 2014-15 team, all eight defensemen and all three goaltenders.
-   Robert Morris is receiving votes in both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.
-   RMU sports 9 seniors in the 2015-16 class, each making an NCAA Tournament appearance, winning Atlantic Hockey regular season & conference tournament titles.
-   The Colonials are captained by redshirt-senior defenseman Tyson Wilson. Alternate captains are defenseman Evan Moore and forward Brandon Denham.
-   Greg Gibson won Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week and was named NCAA second star of the week for his 5-goal weekend at Niagara.
-   Chase Golightly recorded 5 assists and was named Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
-   Robert Morris has scored 19 goals in 4 games, giving up 9, while Michigan has scored 19 goals in 4 games, giving up 13.
-   Junior goaltender Dalton Izyk has been named to the Mike Richter Award watch list for the NCAA's top goaltender.
-   RMU was picked to win the Atlantic Hockey conference in both preseason coaches and media polls. Zac Lynch was voted preseason all-star by the media.


SCOUTING MICHIGAN
-  This weekend's series is the first all-time meeting between RMU and Michigan.
-  Head Coach Red Berenson is in his 32nd season as the head coach at Michigan.
-  The Wolverines are 3-0-1 with 2 wins over Atlantic Hockey's Mercyhurst and a 5-2 win over RPI.  Michigan tied with Union 5-5.
-  Michigan is ranked 10th in both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.
-  Michigan freshman Kyle Connor has 3 goals and 3 assists and is the first freshman to record points in the first four games of his career since JT Compher in 2013-14.
-  Senior Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves is the career scoring leader on Michigan's current roster with 79 points in 109 career games.

LYNCH LIGHTS IT UP
Zac Lynch in 4th in the nation in career scoring with 107 points, tied for 5th in assists (63) and 9th in goals (44). Lynch is also second in short-handed goals (6), tied for 5th in game-winning goals (5) & tied for 10th in power play goals (14). Lynch leads Atlantic Hockey +/- at +7
 

GIBSON GOALS
Senior forward Greg Gibson in No. 2 in the nation with 6 goals in 4 games played this season. The Burlington, Onatrio native leads Atlantic Hockey in points (8) & goals (6), is third in the AHC in +/- at +6.
 

NATIONAL NUMBERS
Aside from Lynch, Robert Morris has several players ranked in the top 50 nationally in career numbers. Gibson is tied for 34th in points (74), tied for 11th in goals (43) and tied for 31st in game-winning goals (6). David Friedmann is 45th in points (66) and tied for 18th in GWG (7). Tyson Wilson is tied for 24th in career assists with 49. Brandon Denham is 53rd in assists (39) and tied for 40th in GWG (5).
 

TEAM SCORING
Robert Morris is one of the top scoring teams in college hockey. The Colonials have scored 19 goals in 4 games, averaging 4.75 goals per game.
 

IZYK NEARS MILESTONE
Junior goaltender Dalton Izyk is nearing the 1,000 save milestone, currently with 998 in his career. Izyk is second in the nation in win percentage (.741) among goaltenders with at least 10 games played.
 

MICHIGAN MEN
Robert Morris has three Michigan natives on the team. Brother Evan and Timmy Moore of Grosse Pointe, and Eric Israel of Huntingdon Mills. The Moore brothers share a hometown with the Wolverines Zach Werenski. Michigan has 15 players from their home state on the roster.
