NEC Rookie Honors Continue to Accrue for Reed

Freshman guard earns second straight NEC Rookie of the Week accolade and sixth overall in 2014-15

Moon Township, Pa. – Freshman guard Marcquise Reed of the Robert Morris University men's basketball team was honored Monday was honored with his second consecutive Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week award. It also marks the sixth time this season Reed has been bestowed the honor, an RMU program record.

In helping lead the Colonials to a split in a pair of games last week, Reed averaged 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from the field.

Reed paced Robert Morris in a 72-65 setback @ LIU Brooklyn (2/5/15) with 22 points while also grabbing four rebounds, dishing out two assists and recording a pair of steals. Reed's performance against the Blackbirds marked his eighth game in 2014-15 eclipsing the 20-point plateau, tying an RMU freshman record that was originally established by former guard and all-time leading scorer Myron Walker (1990-94) in 1990-91.

Two days later in a 76-62 victory @ Fairleigh Dickinson (2/7/15), Reed scored 11 of his 15 points after halftime to help lift the Colonials to the win. He shot 7-for-10 from the field against the Knights and scored nine points and dished out a pair of assists during a 17-8 run that turned a 45-45 tie into a 62-53 cushion with 6:05 to play.

On the 2014-15 campaign, Reed leads Robert Morris and ranks sixth in the NEC in scoring at 15.0 points per game. He also ranks second in the circuit in steals (1.79 per game), fifth in field goal percentage (.532) and ninth in free-throw percentage (.755).

Against league foes, Reed ranks third in the NEC with an average of 16.7 points per contest while shooting  56.2 percent (73-for-130) from the field, including 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from beyond the arc, and 87.5 percent (42-for-48) at the free-throw line.

Led by fifth-year head coach Andrew Toole, RMU concludes the 2014-15 regular season with four of its final six games at home. The Colonials will host LIU Brooklyn Thursday, Feb. 12, in a 7:00 p.m. tip at the Charles L. Sewall Center before welcoming Central Connecticut State Saturday, Feb. 14, with a Noon tip in a game that can be seen live on Fox College Sports.

Robert Morris owns an overall record of 12-12, including an 8-4 mark in the NEC. The Colonials are currently tied for second in the league standings with Bryant, two games behind St. Francis Brooklyn.
