Colonials Fourth After 36 Holes at Cape Fear

Leland, N.C. – The Robert Morris University men's golf sits fourth after the first two rounds of the Cape Fear National Men's Intercollegiate, the team's first full event of the spring season. The Colonials came out of the gates with a 309, but improved eight strokes in the afternoon round for a 301 on the 6,950-yard, par-72 layout at Cape Fear National Golf Club in Leland, N.C.

Ryan Prokay was solid throughout the day, carding one birdie and just five bogeys in 36 holes of golf. His back-to-back rounds of 74 has put him in eighth place in the 71-player field. Just one stroke behind Prokay sits Santiago Mejia. Contrary to Prokay's round, the Colombian native was anything but steady. In addition to scoring one of only two eagles on the day, his first round featured four birdies, four bogeys and three double bogeys for a four-over par 76. Four more birdies combined with three bogeys and a double in the second round gave him a 73 and leaves him 12th with 18 holes to play.

Dan Maier found three strokes in his afternoon round, improving from an opening round of 79 to 76. His 155 total places him 31st with his lone birdie of the day coming on the par-three ninth hole in the event's opening round.  Matt Gurska and Garrett Browning both opened with rounds of 80. Gurska improved with a 78 in round two while Browning shaved one stroke with a 79. They stand 42nd and 45th, respectively.

Mike McMorrow played as an individual, but his first round 75 would have shaved five strokes off the team's opening round score. He followed with a round two 81, giving him a 156 total and placing him in a tie for 35th.

The third and final round of the event will tee off Monday, March. 16.
