Grasonville, Md. - The
Robert Morris University men's golf team sits sixth after the first round of the 36-hole Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational being contested at Prospect Bay Country Club's 6,530-yard, par 71 layout. The event features 23 teams and 118 players.
William & Mary leads the event with a 300 on a course that yielded very few chances to pick up strokes. Arkansas is second (602) and host Towson (312) is third. Colgate is fourth (313) followed by Hofstra (314), Robert Morris (316), Seton Hall (318), LIU Brooklyn (321), Navy (322) and Penn (323) rounding out the top 10 teams.Â
Santiago Mejia is tied for sixth overall, coming in with a three-over par round of 74. He tallied a pair of birdies to help offset five bogeys. Robert Morris finished third on the day with nine birdies and was second in par-four scoring.
Garrett Browning and
Matt Gurska are tied for 26th, both carding scores of 79 in the opening round. Browning managed three birdies, all coming on the front nine. Gurska also had three birdies on the day.
Mike McMorrow birdied his second hole of the day before eventually using 84 strokes to round the circuit.
Ryan Prokay is 96th after an 86 on Saturday.
