RMU Ends NCAA Round Two Where It Started

New Haven, Conn. – Led by junior Dan Maier's even par round, the Robert Morris University men's golf team shaved 12 strokes from its opening day score but could not gain traction in the team standings remaining 13th at the NCAA Tournament New Haven Regional. The Colonials cut down an opening day 305 to a 292 for a two-day total of 597 at The Course at Yale's par-70 layout.

The 292 (+12) is the 10th lowest 18-hole number in team history. #16 South Florida shot a team score of four-under Friday to surge to a nine stroke lead with a 557. North  Carolina State is second (566) with San Diego State (567) and #5 Vanderbilt (567) tied for third and #20 Oklahoma State (570) rounding out the top-five in the team standings.

Maier highlighted the RMU effort by posting the lowest number of his career. His second round 70 featured four birdies as he played the final 14 holes of the day at three-under par after a trio of bogeys on the opening four holes. He is tied for 31st with a 145 total.

Senior Matt Gurska needed 73 strokes to complete his second circuit of the 6,803-yard course. Two birdies on the day left him in a tie for 58th position with a two-day score of 150. One of the players he is tied with is classmate Santiago Mejia. After taking a triple-bogey on the opening hole, Mejia played one over par the remainder of the day. His 74 leaves him with a 150 total.

Junior Garrett Browning found two strokes in round two, cutting a 77 to a 75 with a trio of birdies that puts him 12-over for the event and 64th overall. Senior Ryan Prokay's opening nine holes were exciting to watch as he carded three birdies, three bogeys, two pars and a double-bogey. He would finish up with a 77 and sits tied for 73rd with a 155 total.

The third and final round of the event is slated for Saturday, May 16. Robert Morris will start on the 10th hole with tee times beginning at 9:20 a.m.
