Brandon Denham Signs with AHL's Manitoba Moose

Denham joins fellow Colonial Tyson Wilson on the Winnipeg Jets AHL affiliate

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Robert Morris University men's hockey caps a tremendous season with all nine seniors joining professional hockey teams, as forward Brandon Denham signs an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets.

Denham's senior campaign was best of his collegiate career, scoring 42 points in 39 games on 22 goals and 20 assists. Denham was tied for the team lead in power play goals with eight goals (Greg Gibson also had eight). Denham was a major component of the Colonials power play that was tops in the nation for the majority of the season.

Denham finishes his college career ranked ninth all-time in scoring at Robert Morris, recording 98 points on 43 goals and 55 assists. Denham holds the record for most games played in Colonials history with 154 games under his belt. Denham's 43 goals are seventh all-time at Robert Morris, seven of those goal coming as game-winners. The senior from Milton, Ontario was an Atlantic Hockey third team all-conference player this season.

Denham was a Hobey Baker Award nominee this season and served as an alternate captain, now joining Colonials Captain Tyson Wilson on the Manitoba roster.

"Moving on to pro hockey is kind of bitter sweet, especially so soon," said Denham.

"Really wish our season wasn't over yet and that we brought the [Atlantic Hockey] trophy back to Pittsburgh," Denham continued. "However I've had a great four years at Robert Morris and I'm extremely excited to be taking the next step in my career. Excited to reach one of my dreams to play professional hockey and excited to be headed back to Canada to do so."

"Brandon went to development camp with Winnipeg, so their organization is familiar with him," said Robert Morris head coach Derek Schooley. "It will be a good situation for him with a team that knows him. He is a big body that can skate and will transition well to the pro game. We are very excited for him."

Denham won five championship trophies with the Colonials: two Three Rivers Classic tournament championships, two Atlantic Hockey regular season titles and one Atlantic Hockey playoff championship, helping Robert Morris to its first NCAA tournament appearance. The class of 2016 seniors have won 87 games, more than any other class in Colonials history.

"RMU has given me the platform to improve my game and has given me the opportunity to get a taste of what it takes to be successful in hockey," said Denham. "I owe a lot to the guys over the years for pushing me day in and day out to be the best player I could be, and always making sure there is a challenge."

Denham, Wilson and Zac Lynch all join AHL teams straight from Robert Morris, the first time that more than one player has gone straight to that level in one season. The other six Colonials seniors are all on ECHL teams. Only in 2008 did the Colonials have more than nine players enter the professional hockey ranks when ten players went on to play pro.
