Karwacki Selected for U.S. National Team Tryout

Sparks, Md. — Robert Morris University women's lacrosse graduate Jessica Karwacki is one of 105 players selected by US Lacrosse to try out for the 2017 U.S. Women's National Team. This marks the first time a Robert Morris University women's lacrosse player has been invited to try out for the U.S. national team.

Karwacki, a senior for the Colonials in 2015-16, is the only player from the Northeast Conference selected to try out for the national team.Tryouts will be held from August 5-7 at the national team training center at US Lacrosse headquarters in Karwacki's hometown of Sparks, Maryland.

Following her stellar Colonials career, Karwacki became the first RMU women's lacrosse player to play in the IWLCA Senior North/South All-Star game and took home MVP honors, scoring three goals and recording seven draw controls to lead all players on both teams.

Karwacki is the NCAA's all-time leader in draw controls, finishing her career with 645 draw controls and holding the all-time records for single game and single season. Karwacki's career average is 9.77 draw controls per game.

A first team all-NEC selection in her senior season, Karwacki scored a career-high 31 goals and 38 points with 45 shots on goal. Karwacki ranked first in the Northeast Conference in draw controls with 107 and a per game average of 6.50, fifth-best in the NCAA. The senior attacker also collected 26 ground balls and caused 17 turnovers. Karwacki ranked third in conference and ninth in NCAA in free position percentage (.625) and scored two game-winning goals last season. Karwacki recorded 7 points on 4 goals and 3 assists in a win at St. Francis University on April 22. One of those goals was scored 6 seconds from time of the draw control, tying the NCAA record for the fastest goal in women's lacrosse history.

Following the three-day tryout, approximately 36 players will be selected for the U.S. team, which will train in the lead-up to the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Guildford, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
