Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. – Bayley Winkel and Keane McIvor, seniors on the Robert Morris University men's soccer team, were recognized by the Northeast Conference (NEC) in its postseason awards this evening.
Fourth-year forward Bayley Winkel was named to the All-NEC First Team, while senior midfielder Keane McIvor garnered his third consecutive All-NEC Second Team selection.
Winkel, a native of Whitby, Ontario, emerged as one of the conference's top goal scorers with 10 tallies on the season. He became the 11th different player in program history to reach double-digit goals in a year, and sits second among NEC players in goals and points (22). Winkel scored a pair of game-winners against Howard and LIU Brooklyn, registered a brace in Robert Morris' home opener against St. Bonaventure, and collected a goal in three straight contests from Oct. 8-16. In addition to his scoring output, he's been as reliable as they come in the attacking third as he's played a team-high 1,558 minutes this year.
McIvor, hailing from Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago, is the ninth player in school history to make three All-NEC Teams. A creator in the midfield, he paces the league in assists with eight and is tied for 10th in points with 12. McIvor has a pair of two-assist performances against Canisius and Howard, and tallied a helper in three straight games from Oct. 31 to Sept. 8. Recently, he's been more of a scoring threat for the Colonials, tallying goals on Oct. 20 at St. Francis Brooklyn and on Oct. 29 against Sacred Heart – the latter coming courtesy of an overtime penalty kick.
Robert Morris is the fourth seed in the NEC Tournament and begins its quest for a championship tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. against top-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn.
