Robert Morris University guard Jeremy Chappell (2005-09), in his first year playing professionally in Turkey, helped lead Banvit BK to the Turkish Cup Title Sunday with 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists in a 75-66 victory over Anadolu Efes Istanbul.
Chappell is in his eighth season playing professionally overseas and starts at point guard for Banvit BK. In 18 games in the Turkish League, he is averaging 9.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Â In the Basketball Champions League, Chappell, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, has produced averages of 8.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest. On 15 occasions this season Chappell has reached double figures, including a season-high 22 points in Banvit BK's season opener against Pinar Karsiyaka.
During his four years at Robert Morris, Chappell compiled career totals of 1,875 points and 681 rebounds. He ranks third all-time in program history in scoring and sixth in rebounds. In addition, Chappell owns RMU career records for three-point field goals (243) and double-figure scoring games (100).
Chappell was named the 2006 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year and in his final season was selected as the 2009 NEC Player of the Year. In 2008-09, Chappell heled lead the Colonials to an overall record of 24-11 (.686), including a mark of 15-3 (.833) in the NEC. He averaged 16.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest while leading the NEC in steals (2.6 per game). In the 2009 NEC Tournament, Chappell averaged 19.7 points and 6.3 rebounds en route to MVP honors as the Colonials captured their sixth league tournament crown.
Prior to signing with Banvit BK for the 2016-17 campaign, Chappell spent two years (2014-16) with Avtodor Saratov of the Russia Superleague (RSL). Last season he averaged 13.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, including 15.5 points per contest in Eurocup action.
Chappell spent two years (2011-13) with Ferro-ZNTU Zaporozhye of the Ukrainian Superleague and also played for Noverla Ivano-Frankivsk of the same league in 2010-11. Chappell started his professional career in the Poland-PLK league in 2009-10, finishing fourth in the circuit in scoring (18.3 ppg) and second in rebounding (8.2 rpg). That season he was named the 2010 All-Polish League Defensive Player of the Year.
Overall at Robert Morris Chappell ranks seventh for career games played (124) and second in starts (120). He played 4,187 minutes during his four years, the most in school history. Chappell compiled career averages of 15.1 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 47.1 percent (710-for-1,508) from the floor and 76.8 percent (212-for-276) at the free-throw line.
