Moon Township, Pa. – Max Palmer, a freshman on the Robert Morris University men's golf team, was recognized by the Northeast Conference (NEC) as its Male Golfer of the Week following his performance at the RMU Colonial Classic earlier this week.
Palmer, a native of Novi, Mich., placed second at the Colonials' home invitational, carding a two-day score of five-over 149. The freshman fired a 75 in the first round and a 74 on day two to finish one stroke behind Humber's Conner Watt for medalist honors. With his efforts, RMU made up a seven-stroke deficit to win the Colonial Classic by 14 strokes over St. Bonaventure.
The rookie has enjoyed a fine first season in Moon Township, leading the Colonials in scoring average at 74.47 per round. He has finished four rounds at even or below par and owns three top-five finishes and four top-10 efforts.
Palmer becomes the first RMU player to be garner an NEC weekly or monthly award since September of 2015, when Garrett Browning shared NEC Golfer of the Month honors.
Fresh off its first victory over the season, Robert Morris looks to keep the momentum going at the NEC Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. starting on Friday, April 28.
