Apalachin, N.Y. – A career-best round from senior Bryce Gorrell helped the Robert Morris University men's golf team climb one spot on the leaderboard on the final day of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational, as the Colonials placed fourth with a two-round total of 584 (+8).

Robert Morris fired a two-under 286 on the afternoon, its second lowest round relative to par in program history. The Colonials finished four strokes out of second place, which was shared by Longwood and St. Bonaventure at 580 (+4). Tournament host Binghamton dominated to claim the team title with a 14-under 562, while Columbia rounded out the top five with a two-round total of 585 (+5). Northeast Conference (NEC) foes LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn finished 13th and 15th, respectively.

RESULTS: Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational (All Two Rounds)

Gorrell collected his second top-10 finish of the early season, posting a career-low of 69 (-3) to finish a stroke off the individual lead. His two-day total of 140 (-4) was good for a share of third place, and also is tied for the program's second best 36-hole score relative to par. The senior opened the round with four straight pars, before birdieing three of the next six holes. Another birdie on the 15th hole was followed by a bogey, but Gorrell fired an eagle on the final hole to set a new personal best.

Max Palmer carded an even-par 72 to finish in a deadlock for 24th overall. Palmer picked up seven spots from where he was entering the day, thanks in part to four birdies and 11 pars. The junior's best work came on the front nine, as he birdied both of its par fives and a par four.

Kyle Grube also posted an even-par 72, picking up nine spots to finish 29th. Grube also tallied four birdies – all of which came in a six-hole span from seven to 12 – and 10 pars.

David Szymanski was right behind Palmer and Grube, registering a one-over 73 to rise eight spots into a tie for 30th position. Szymanski did his damage on the back nine, collecting all three of his birdies after the turn, along with five of his 12 pars.

Chase Miller closed the RMU quintet with a seven-over 79. The freshman tallied 10 pars and a birdie on the 18th hole.

Robert Morris returns to the links on Monday, Oct. 8 for the first day of the Cleveland State Invitational.
