Senior duo sign with ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Robert Morris University men's hockey seniors Spencer Dorowicz and Robert Powers have signed professional contracts with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Rangers.

Both Dorowicz and Powers were part of Colonials squads that won a pair of regular season Atlantic Hockey titles and made three consecutive appearances in the conference tournament championship game. The two are also three-time members of the Atlantic Hockey all-Academic team.

Dorowicz, a forward, finished his Colonials career with 23 goals, 36 assists and 59 points, tallying six game-winning goals of the course of his career, three during his senior season. The Olds, Alberta native played in 145 career games, ranking tenth all-time for most games played in RMU history.

Dorowicz skated in all 41 games his senior season, finishing 7th on the Colonials in scoring with 8 goals and 11 assists for a career-high 19 points. Dorowicz recorded four two-point games, including a pair of two-goal outings, against AIC on Nov. 17 and at #18 Penn State on Dec. 9. A member of both the power play and penalty kill units, Dorowicz also made 35 blocks his senior year and had four points on the power play. Dorowicz ranked 15th in Atlantic Hockey in faceoff percentage with a .535 mark (403-350).

Powers, a defenseman, played in 84 career games, scoring 2 goals and adding 15 assists for 17 career points. Powers finished his Colonials career with his best season, skating in all 41 games, posting a pair of goals and totaling 14 points, a member of the Colonials power play.

A native of Ajax, Ontario, Powers was a plus-three rating, blocking 23 shots in his senior campaign. Powers recorded two, two-point games, his first coming as he scored his first career goal on Nov. 17 vs. AIC (1G, 1A).

Dorowicz and Powers were both Atlantic Hockey weekly honorees on Nov. 21, Dorowicz nabbing the Player of the Week, while Powers earned the Defensive Player nod.

Dorowicz and Powers are among the more than 60 Colonials to join the professional hockey ranks, and will join the club in Greenville ahead of this weekend's home games.
