The senior's lowest round of the fall came on the strength of an eagle, two birdies, and 13 pars. Palmer bogeyed his second hole to go one-over, but rebounded with six consecutive pars before carding a three on the par-five, 503-yeard ninth hole. After another bogey on the 14th hole put him at even, he responded with a finish of par-birdie-birdie-par to gain control of the lead.
Chase Miller, who was that last Colonial to win medalist honors at a tournament (2018 NKU Fall Collegiate Classic), posted a one-over 71 to sit in a tie for 12th. Miller sank three birdies on the back nine and totaled 11 pars to register his lowest round of the season.
Kyle Grube finished at three-over 73 and is in a deadlock for 27th. Grube's round consisted of 12 pars and a pair of birdies, the last coming on the 18th hole – matching Miller's effort.
Nicholas Mihalo, playing as an individual, fired a five-over 75 with three birdies and nine pars. Cole Chase carded a six-over 76 with two birdies, and Logan Hess registered a nine-over 79.
Palmer leads Ryan Skae of Colgate, Ron Robinson of Monmouth, and the Bucknell duo of Peter Bradbeer and Chris Tanabe, all of which finished their opening 18 holes at one-under 69.
Robert Morris concludes the Bucknell Fall Invitational tomorrow with Mihalo teeing off at 10:00 a.m. from the 10th hole.
