PITTSBURGH -- The
Robert Morris University women's hockey team is proud to announce it will host its annual Teddy Bear Toss game this Friday, Dec. 6, as the Colonials challenge rival Mercyhurst at the RMU Island Sports Center.
Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed toy (with tags still attached) to the game, which starts at 7:05 p.m. When the Colonials score their first goal, fans will be prompted to throw their toys onto the ice. All items collected will be donated directly to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Any fan who brings a new stuffed toy to the game will receive $1 admission.
The promotion, now in its fourth season, is entirely organized and executed by student-athletes. As always for Friday home hockey games, a free continuous shuttle will run from the RMU campus (between Lexington and Concord halls) to the Island Sports Center from 6-10 p.m.
Now in their 15th season of NCAA Division I play, the Colonials are coming off an unbeaten month of November, in which they went 7-0-1. The three-time defending College Hockey America regular-season champions are 9-5-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play leading into this weekend.
After playing six consecutive games on the road, RMU will finish the fall semester on home ice, starting with Friday's matchup with in-state foe Mercyhurst. Saturday's opening faceoff is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
Following the winter break, the Colonials will return to the ice Jan. 4-5 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township for the first 'Battle at the Burgh' invitational tournament, organized by the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. Defending national champion Wisconsin joins traditional college hockey powers Northeastern and Colgate on the inaugural slate. More information -- including how to purchase tickets -- will be available shortly.
