PITTSBURGH -- After matching his career high with a four-point game last weekend at Holy Cross,
Robert Morris University senior winger
Alex Tonge was named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Tonge, who leads the Colonials with 13 goals and 28 total points, spearheaded RMU's 5-3 comeback victory Friday in Worcester, Mass. The native of Kingston, Ontario, scored the game-tying goal in the third period and recorded the primary assist on three other tallies, helping the Colonials successfully rally from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2.
Tonge's goal was the 50th of his NCAA career, making him the sixth Colonial ever to reach that milestone. Tonge also ranks sixth on the program's all-time scoring list, with 126 points in 136 Division I games. He's been heating up lately, accounting for nine points (4g, 5a) over his past eight games.
This Atlantic Hockey weekly honor is the second of Tonge's time with RMU; he also has been named AHA Player of the Month once before. Tonge is the fourth Colonial to earn a weekly award this season, joining classmate
Eric Israel (Defensive Player - Nov. 19-25, Dec. 24-30), junior
Francis Marotte (Goalie - Nov. 19-25) and freshman
Nick Lalonde (Rookie - Jan. 14-20).
Coming off a two-game split at Holy Cross, the Colonials will stay on the road this weekend when they travel to face R.I.T. on Friday and Saturday in Henrietta, N.Y.
