Hellertown, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's golf team sits in fifth place out of 20 teams after the first round of the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Lafayette College at Silver Creek Country Club.
Robert Morris fired a 10-over 298 and enters tomorrow's final round eight strokes off the lead. Colgate paces the field at two-over 290, followed by a three-way tie between Bucknell, Lafayette, and Saint Peter's at six-over 294. Fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) opponent Bryant is tied for seventh with a 13-over 301.

Kyle Grube paced the Colonials on the afternoon with a one-under 71, which matches his career low and puts him two strokes off the individual lead. Grube opened the round with a bogey, but followed that up with three birdies and five pars to close the front nine. The junior added two more birdies on the back nine, placing him fourth after the first day of the invitational.
Max Palmer posted a two-over 74 to follow Grube on the team leaderboard. Palmer fired a pair of 37s on the front and back nine, tallying a birdie and six pars on both. The junior shot a one-under on the three par fives, making five on the first two before putting a red mark on the 520-yard 14th.
Bryce Gorrell carded a four-over 76, while Nicholas Mihalo was right behind with a five-under 77. Gorrell posted four birdies over his first trip on the links, and Mihalo collected 12 pars in the first 18.
Chase Miller fired a nine-over 81, and Ethan Sawyer – playing as an individual – carded a 12-over 84.
Chris Tanabe of Bucknell is on top of the individual leaderboard with a three-under 69.
Robert Morris concludes play at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational tomorrow with a 10:00 a.m. start.
