Springboro, Ohio – The Robert Morris University men's golf team sits seven strokes off the lead in fifth place after the first day of the Wright State Invitational, which was limited to one round today due to rain.
Playing at the par-70, 6,780-yard Heatherwoode Golf Club, Robert Morris posted a 19-over 369 on the day, trailing Wittenberg (362, +12), Wright State (365, +15), Green Bay (365, +15), and IUPUI (366, +16) on the leaderboard. The Colonials are also tied with Indianapolis in fifth place out of 12 teams, as this tournament features six players to a team with five counting scores.

Kyle Grube led RMU in the first round, firing an even-par 70 to sit in a tie for fourth overall. Grube collected 14 pars and two birdies in his fifth round at or below par this season. The junior closed strong after a bogey on the second hole, tallying three pars and a birdie. The 70 is a career-low score by total strokes for Grube, topping the previous mark of 71 that he's fired earlier this season at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational and Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational.
Max Palmer is in a deadlock for 20th after carding a three-over 73. Palmer's round consisted of 12 pars and two birdies, both of the latter coming on the back nine's par threes. The junior now has played eight rounds in the spring season, with all of them being at 74 or lower.
Daniel Franco Saad and Alex Schreckengost both posted a five-over 75. Franco Saad collected 13 pars and a birdie on the par-five fourth hole, while Schreckengost tallied 12 pars and a birdie on the par-four second hole.
Chase Miller fired a six-over 76, while David Szymanski rounded out the Colonial six with a 13-over 83.
Robert Morris concludes play tomorrow at the Wright State Invitational, its final tournament before the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships.
