PITTSBURGH -- With Mike Louria's Tuesday signing with the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL,
Robert Morris University's Class of 2019 now has two members in the pro hockey ranks.
Louria, 25, spent the last two seasons of his college hockey career at RMU after transferring from UMass Lowell. All told, the right-shooting winger accumulated 33 goals and 80 total points in four NCAA seasons, scoring 23 of those goals and 56 of those points for the Colonials.
"Feels pretty good to get this chance," Louria said of joining the Oilers, who have the fourth-best record in the ECHL. "It's a good opportunity with a good team."
Louria joins classmate
Alex Tonge in the ECHL, as RMU's No. 5 all-time scorer
signed with the Florida Everblades last week. With those two forwards jumping to the next level, that means RMU has produced 70 professional players in 15 seasons of Division I men's hockey. Louria already made his pro debut Tuesday in Tulsa's 4-3 loss at Kansas City.
Born and raised in Michigan, Louria and his family moved to Wexford, Pa., where he skated for the Pittsburgh Hornets midget major team before pursuing a hockey career at the junior level. After skating in 51 games for UMass Lowell of Hockey East, Louria made his Colonials debut in 2017-18 with a 14-goal, 30-point season. As a senior, he finished third on the team in scoring, behind Tonge and junior
Luke Lynch.
Louria finished his college career as Division I's active co-leader in overtime goals, with three. One of those was one of the most important goals in RMU program history: The sudden-death winner in the 2018 Atlantic Hockey semifinal game against Mercyhurst. Louria added another significant playoff goal this spring, netting the
late decider in Game 2 of a quarterfinal series against Bentley.
Louria ended up with 16 points in 24 career NCAA playoff games, including an assist in RMU's season-ending overtime loss to American International in this year's AHA semifinal. He scored four points (2g, 2a) in six playoff games as a senior, ranking fourth on the team.
Robert Morris just made its sixth consecutive trip to Atlantic Hockey's final four, tying the league record. RMU has claimed two regular-season titles (2015, 2016) and a postseason crown (2014) over that span of success. For more information on the team, visit RMUColonials.com.Â
