Colonials Top Field in Par Three Scoring to Open Myrtle Beach Regional

Robert Morris posted a 17-over 305 on the day, but paced the field in par three scoring by two strokes (-1, 2.95)

Murrells Inlet, S.C. – The Robert Morris University men's golf team opened up play at the Myrtle Beach Regional of the NCAA Championships with a 17-over 305 this afternoon at TPC of Myrtle Beach.

Robert Morris shares 13th place with Middle Tennessee State after the first 18 holes. Illinois paces the field at nine-under 279, followed by Ohio State (-4, 284), Wake Forest (-2, 286), Florida State (-2, 286), California (E, 288), and UNLV (E, 288) all finishing at or below par. Adrien Dumont de Chassart of Illinois tops the individual leaderboard after firing a five-under 67.

RESULTS: 2019 NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional First Round

Kyle Grube led the Colonials on the day with a two-over 74. Grube started strong, carding four birdies over the first six holes, and posted a three-under 33 on the front nine. The junior All-NEC First Team selection tallied nine pars over his entire round and sits in a tie for 35th individually.

Daniel Franco Saad carded a three-over 75 in an up-and-down first round. Franco Saad opened the day with a birdie, but ran into trouble shortly after and sat at eight-over after nine holes. The senior reversed course quickly, however, tallying five birdies on the back nine for a five-under 31. Franco Saad's six birdies in total was one shy of Michael Feagles of Illinois' round-high seven.

Max Palmer posted a four-over 76 in his first trip around TPC of Myrtle Beach. Palmer carded a two-over 38 on both the front and back nine, registering three birdies and eight pars on the afternoon. The NEC Player of the Year was one of the best on par threes, tying for second with a 2.75 stroke average on them.

Chase Miller and Bryce Gorrell carded an eight-over 80 and nine-over 81, respectively. Miller collected one birdie and nine pars during his round, while Gorrell tallied 10 pars.

RMU led all teams in par three scoring at 2.95, topping Illinois, Wake Forest, and Ohio State by two strokes each.

Robert Morris continues play at the Myrtle Beach Regional tomorrow, beginning with a 9:20 a.m. tee time.
