Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University Department of Athletics honored its student-athletes for the 2019-20 school year Sunday with a virtual Athletics Award Ceremony, which took place on the
RMU Athletics official Twitter feed.
Led by master of ceremonies
Chris Shovlin, the radio play-by-play voice of RMU Athletics for the last 33 years, Robert Morris presented most valuable player awards to each of its 16 intercollegiate sports, while 12 individuals and one team were honored with major awards.
Garnering the Presidential Scholar-Athlete was
Jaycee Gebhard of women's hockey and
Kyle Grube from men's golf. The Presidential Scholar-Athlete honor is bestowed to senior student-athletes who combined both athletic and academic excellence throughout their respective careers.
Gebhard earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree as a marketing major and compiled a 3.94 cumulative grade point average (GPA), while
Grube earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in management and hospitality and tourism management while posting a 3.72 cumulative GPA.
Earning
accolades for the Highest GPA Awards, which are bestowed to the senior student-athletes with the highest cumulative GPA, were seniors
Natalie Marcuzzi and
Sean Giles, both of hockey. Marcuzzi posted a 3.99 GPA while earning a BSBA in finance, while Giles also compiled a 3.99 GPA in earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering.
Claiming the Team GPA Award was volleyball. During the 2018-19 academic year, the
Colonials compiled a team GPA of 3.846, the highest of RMU's 16 Division I programs.

Taking home the
RMU Athletic Department Appreciation Award was Jim Koepfinger of Moon Community Access Television (MCA-TV) and Joe Hale and Ray Zaparoni from the RMU Academic Media Center. The RMU Athletic Department Appreciation Award is bestowed annually to an individual or individuals from outside the athletic department that display exemplary service.
Earning the
fourth annual faculty award, given out in assistance with the RMU Center for Student Success, was Kathryn Dennick-Brecht, Ed.D., the department head for social sciences, and Petros G. Malaklyna, Ph.D., the department head for organizational leadership.
The
2020 Outstanding Senior Male award went to
Max Palmer of men's golf, while
Gebhard and
Nneka Ezeigbo of
basketball were each named the 2020 Outstanding Senior Female.
The
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) award for 2020 was bestowed to junior
Emily Curlett of hockey.
