Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU golf team concluded its 2021 fall schedule Monday, playing 27 holes at Montclair Golf Club in Montclair, N.J., as part of the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championship. The Colonials tied for second with Fordham, posting a score of 449.
TEAM CHAMPION
Columbia finished with a score of 439 to earn the team championship Monday in the tournament that was hosted by Wagner. Trailing the Colonials and Rams were Monmouth and Seton Hall, which tied for fourth at 451. Rounding out the field was Manhattan (456), Fairfield and Wagner, which each carded a 462, Saint Peter's (465) and Hofstra (474).
THE PLAYOFF
At the conclusion of 27 holes, Pat Healy and Wyatt McGovern of Columbia, along with junior
Josh Nagy, were tied atop the individual leaderboard at 107 (+2). Nagy carded a 39 on the first nine but rebounded to post a 36 (+1) and a 32 (-3). McGovern finished 36-35-36 and Healy posted a 35-35-37. In the first hole of the playoff at No. 1, each of the three student-athletes posted a par. The trio moved to the ninth hole, with Healy and Nagy each finishing at par and McGovern recording a bogey. The playoff was halted on account of darkness, with Healy being ruled the winner via the Match of Card Tiebreaker.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Junior
Parker Johnson, in his first action of the 2021 fall season, came through for RMU at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championship, tying for 16th individually playing out of the fourth spot in the lineup. He finished at 111 (+6) for the 27 holes, opening with a 39 before carding a 36 and a 37. Senior
Chase Miller was one of five student-athletes to tie for 18th, posting a 113 (+8). He recorded a 39 on each of the first and second nine before finishing at even par on the final nine holes with a 35.
THE LINEUP
Also seeing their first action of the fall for RMU Monday was sophomore
Deven Stewart and redshirt junior
Cole Chase. Stewart, who was making his NCAA Division I debut, finished at 117 in the 27-hole tournament, while Chase carded a 120. Playing as an individual, redshirt junior
Jimmy Ellis posted a 129.
UP NEXT
RMU now gets set for its championship season in the spring of 2022, which begins in March.
