CATCHING UP

Robert Morris kicked off the 2021 Spring campaign last Thursday on the road against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, losing by a final score of 5-0.

While the final result was a loss, the Colonials got some much needed game-time against one of the best teams in the Horizon League in what was their first competition in over a calendar year.

KNOW BOBBY MO

  • The Colonials are coming off of a 5-0 road loss to Oakland last Thursday at the Grizz Dome in Rochester, Michigan.
  • Twenty Colonials saw game action in their season opener last week against OU. Junior goalkeeper Grant Glorioso made his fifth career start in goal for the Colonials, making five saves.
  • Sophomore forward Jon Faynik led RMU in both shots and shots on goal last week with one each.
  • Midfielder Lorenzo Guagneli is the lone senior on a roster that features nine freshmen, seven sophomores, and ten juniors.
  • Head Coach Jason O'Keefe takes over in his first year at the helm of Robert Morris in 2021.O'Keefe spent the last four years as head coach at Appalachian State, the last two of which he led the Mountaineers to back-to-back winning seasons, including a mark of 11-7-1 (.605) in 2019.
  • The Colonials will play their 2021 home schedule away from campus in 2021, hosting games at the indoor facilities of the SouthPointe Fieldhouse.
  • Amongst their new Horizon League foes, the Colonials have never faced Milwaukee, Fort Wayne or IUPUI.  RMU is 6-11 all-time against Cleveland State, 0-2 against Oakland, 0-0-1 against UIC, 0-1-1 against Detroit Mercy, 3-3 against Wright State, 0-1 against Northern Kentucky, and 0-1 against Green Bay.  Robert Morris squared off against both Oakland and CSU last season, however they have not faced UIC in over 20 years, last meeting the Flames during the 1996 campaign.

SCOUTING CLEVELAND STATE

CSU is 0-1 to start the season after a dramatic 2-1 loss to Green Bay in double overtime last week in Cleveland. After the Vikings leveled things at 1-1 in the 35', neither team was able to find the back of the net for nearly 75 minutes of game time until Green Bay managed to knock in a rebound in the second extra frame to earn the win.

Cleveland State was picked to finish fifth overall in the 2021 Preseason Coaches Poll after going 7-7-1 (3-5 HL) a year ago.

Six Vikings return that started at least 12 matches last season, while 11 total Vikings are back that played in at least seven contests in 2019, including All-Freshman Team goalkeeper Omeed Naeemy as well as senior defender and captain Thomas M'Barek.

QUOTABLES

"We are excited to get back on the field vs. CSU. The games are the best teacher, so I am sure we will continue to learn more about our group Wednesday." - Head Coach Jason O'Keefe
