RMU Places Third in Carpetbagger Classic

Redshirt sophomore Chris Sabol and junior Chase Miller both placed inside the top 10 for the Colonials

Urbana, Md. – The Robert Morris University men's golf team maintained its first-round position at the Carpetbagger Classic, finishing third out of 10 teams with a 36-hole score of 605 (+29) this afternoon. RMU also saw two of its players collect top-10 individual finishes in redshirt sophomore Chris Sabol and junior Chase Miller.

A COLLEGIATE FIRST
Redshirt sophomore Chris Sabol collected the first top-10 finish of his collegiate career, coming in a tie for sixth with a two-round tally of 148 (+4). Sabol followed up a career-best 73 (+1) over the opening 18 with a 75 (+3) this afternoon, putting him three strokes off the individual lead. The Moon, Pa. native played in seven rounds last season after transferring in from Methodist (N.C.) University, finishing fifth on the team in stroke average at 78.1.

MILLER TIME
Junior Chase Miller netted the other Colonial top-10 effort today, sharing 10th with Ignacio Gomez of Mount St. Mary's. Miller carded a two-day total of 149 (+5), finishing with a 75 (+3) this afternoon after a 74 (+2) yesterday. This is the third career top-10 finish for the Bernville, Pa. native, who lowered his RMU stroke average this weekend to 76.0 over 41 rounds.

FINISHING OFF
RMU had six players compete this weekend, including the aforementioned Sabol and Miller. Playing as an individual, sophomore Josh Nagy placed in a tie for 30th with a two-round total of 154 (+10) – highlighted by a career-low 75 (+3) this afternoon. Freshmen Skyler Fox and Xavier Schwarz finished their first collegiate tournaments with respective scores of 155 (+11) and 157 (+13), while graduate student Kyle Grube also carded a 157 (+13) to begin his final season.

THE FINAL ROUNDUP
Fairleigh Dickinson took home the team title with a two-day total of 596 (+20), thanks in part to a seven-over 295 in the final round. Tournament host Bucknell finished second at 601 (+25), and after the Colonials, Towson (+30, 606), Bryant (+31, 607), Iona (+32, 608), Lafayette (+33, 609), Binghamton (+35, 611), Mount St. Mary's (+35, 611), and Mount St. Mary's B (+45, 621) rounded out the field. Jaime Julve of FDU defeated Jack Gardner of Bucknell on the second playoff hole for medalist honors, as both finished 36 holes at 145 (+1).

NEXT UP
RMU returns to the course on April 2-3 when it competes in the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational at Penn National Golf Club.
