Bridgeport, W.Va. – Robert Morris University men's golf graduate student Kyle Grube fired a season low of 73 (+1) this afternoon, placing him eighth from a strong 81-player field at the Mountaineer Invitational. RMU finished 13th as a team, posting a 308 (+20) in the third round for a 54-hole tally of 947 (+83).
THE VETERAN
Graduate student Kyle Grube bounced back from a couple of tough outings in RMU's opening two tournaments, finishing at 221 (+5) to net his first top-10 finish of the season. Grube carded a pair of 74s (+2) in yesterday's 36-hole marathon before trimming a stroke this afternoon at 73 (+1), thanks to four birdies and nine pars. The Indiana, Pa. product cut his stroke average from 79.3 to 76.9 with his two-day tally, and the top-10 effort is the fifth of his career.
THE TEAM
The Colonials' 308 (+20) in the third round was their lowest of the tournament. Junior Chase Miller and freshman Skyler Fox posted sub-80 rounds of 77 (+5) and 78 (+6), respectively. Redshirt sophomore Chris Sabol finished his third round at 80 (+8), while sophomore Alex Seelig (82, +10) and senior Nicholas Mihalo (87, +15) completed their first tournament of the season.
THE ROUNDUP
West Virginia swept the team and individual titles at its home tournament with a 54-hole total of 873 (+9), nine strokes ahead of runner-up Southern Miss (882, +18). No. 35 Georgia Southern (892, +28), Loyola (Md.) (897, +33), and Chattanooga (900, +36) rounded out the top five. The Mountaineers' Mark Goetz lapped his competitors for medalist honors, carding a 54-hole score of 204 (-12) – headlined by a 65 (-7) in the third round. He finished 12 strokes ahead of Brice Wilkinson of Southern Miss (216, E).
