Springboro, Ohio – The Robert Morris University men's golf team began play at the Wright State Invitational this afternoon with a 36-hole score of 623 (+55). RMU opened the day with a 314 (+30) in the first round before trimming five strokes in the second round at 309 (+25).
STARRING SEELIG
Sophomore Alex Seelig was the top performing Colonial this afternoon, entering the clubhouse in a tie for 26th place with a 36-hole tally of 151 (+9). Seelig started the day with an up-and-down 77 (+6), netting five birdies and six pars, but also four doubles. He cleaned it up in the second round by firing a career-low 73 (+3), collecting three birdies and 10 pars.
THE TEAM
RMU brought five players to Springboro, headlined by Seelig's performance. Junior Chase Miller carded a 36-hole total of 156 (+14), improving on his opening-round total of 79 (+8) with a 77 (+6) on the second 18. Graduate student Kyle Grube and freshman Skyler Fox both posted a 158 (+16) this afternoon, as Grube fired a 76 (+5) in the first round before Fox matched that score in the second. Redshirt sophomore Jimmy Ellis is at 182 (+40) through two rounds.
THE LEADERBOARD
Wright State leads its home invitational by 15 strokes, registering a 36-hole total of 579 (+11). Youngstown State (594, +26), Ohio (594, +26), Valparaiso (595, +27), and Green Bay (600, +30) round out the top five. WSU's duo of Austin Schoonmaker and Tyler Goecke top the individual leaderboard with respective scores of 137 (-5) and 138 (-4).
THE DETAILS
The Wright State Invitational is being held at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio at its par-71, 7,075-yard course. This is RMU's fifth appearance at Wright State's home tournament, previously competing in the 2019 spring edition.
