Fayetteville, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's golf team sits nine strokes off the lead after one round of the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational, carding a 310 (+22) over the opening 18 holes. The performance puts the Colonials fifth out of 10 teams.
THE LEADERBOARD
RMU trails Bryant (301, +13), Sacred Heart (304, +16), Saint Francis U (306, +18), and Youngstown State (309, +21) on the team leaderboard. Mount St. Mary's (311, +23), Towson (312, +24), Fairleigh Dickinson (314, +26), LIU (315, +27), and Wagner (321, +33) round out the 10-team field.
MAN FROM THE MOON
Redshirt sophomore Chris Sabol continued his strong start to the spring, posting a season-low 72 (E) this afternoon. Sabol currently sits two strokes off the lead in a tie for second, and shaved a stroke from his previous best of 73 (+1) – which was established in the first round of the Carpetbagger Classic on March 20. The Moon, Pa. native competed in seven rounds last season after transferring in from Methodist (N.C.) University, finishing fifth on the team in stroke average at 78.1.
THE TEAM
Like the opening tournament, junior Chase Miller currently ranks second on the team and inside the top 10, slotting in a tie for eighth with a 76 (+4). Sophomores Josh Nagy and Cole Chase both posted identical scores of 81 (+9), and graduate student Kyle Grube rounded out the RMU quintet with an 84 (+12).
THE DETAILS
The Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational is being held at Penn National Golf Club in Fayetteville, Pa. at its par-72, 6,972-yard Founders Course. The Colonials entered the weekend undefeated at FDU's home tournaments, sweeping the 2009 and 2010 fall events at different locations.
