Fayetteville, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's golf team occupied the top two spots on the player leaderboard at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational, using those performances to share second place overall with a final 36-hole tally of 605 (+29). Redshirt sophomore Chris Sabol captured the first medalist honors of his career, while Chris Miller finished a stroke behind after matching his career low with a 69 (-3) this afternoon.
MAN FROM THE MOON
Redshirt sophomore Chris Sabol matched his first-round total of 72 (E) today, lifting him to medalist honors over the 50-player field. Sabol finished the tournament with an even-par 144, trimming his season stroke average to 73.0. The Moon, Pa. native previously placed sixth at the Carpetbagger Classic on March 20-21, which was the first top-10 finish of his career. This marks the fourth consecutive season that a RMU player has won a tournament, as Sabol joins teammate Chase Miller (2018-19), Max Palmer (2019-20), and David Szymanski (2017-18).
MILLER TIME
Junior Chase Miller put together one of the best rounds of his collegiate career, firing a career-low 69 (-3) to help him climb from eighth to second. Miller now ranks fifth all-time at RMU in stroke average, lowering his number to 75.84 following today's round. The Bernville, Pa. native has two top-10 finishes this season and four for his career, as well as three top-five performances.
THE TEAM
RMU posted the lowest score of the day as a team, coming in with a 295 (+7) to lift the Colonials three spots on the leaderboard. Kyle Grube carded a season-low 76 (+4) this afternoon, and Josh Nagy posted a 78 (+6) to finish the team scoring. Cole Chase also competed for the Colonials this weekend, coming in with an 83 (+11) over the final 18 holes.
THE ROUNDUP
Sacred Heart captured the team title with a 36-hole total of 603 (+27), outlasting RMU and Bryant (605, +29) by two strokes. Saint Francis U (607, +31), Towson (608, +32), Youngstown State (615, +39), LIU (617, +41), Mount St. Mary's (619, +43), Fairleigh Dickinson (620, +44), and Wagner (635, +59) rounded out the field. Miller shared second place individually with Towson's Justin Griffith and 18-hole leader Nick Piersall of Bryant.
