Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU golf team opened its 2021 fall season Monday by playing 36 holes at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W. Va., at the Guyan Golf and Country Club. The Colonials sit 14th after two rounds, posting a team score of 292 in round one and 304 in round two.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Logan Hess, who did not compete for the Colonials during the 2020-21 season, got his junior season off to a solid start by posting an even-par 71 in his first round of the new year. He finished with a 76 in round two, carding a 147 on the first day of action. Hess recorded a birdie on his second hole of the season and finished with three through the first nine holes, finishing at 33 on the back nine. He added another birdie on the front nine to close his first round. He is one of 13 student-athletes that enters Tuesday's final round tied for 32nd individually.

THE LEADERBOARD

Host Marshall sits in first place after the first day of competition, combining for a score of 558 (-10) in the first two rounds. The Thundering Herd were the only team on the first day of competition to finish under par, recording a 273 in round one and a 285 in round two. Trailing Marshall and fulfilling the top five teams Monday was Wright State (282, 290), Dayton (280, 292) and Longwood (286, 286), which are each +4, and Belmont (288, 288), which is +8.

LINEUP TWEAK

Head coach Jerry Stone made a lineup switch prior to the beginning of the invite, moving Xavier Schwarz into the fifth spot of the lineup for the Colonials, while redshirt junior Chris Sabol played as an individual. Schwarz posted a +6 in the first two rounds for RMU, finishing one over par in the first round with a 72 before recording a 76 in round two. He is one of six student-athletes that is tied for 45th. On the back nine to start the first round for the Colonials, Schwarz birdied the 165-yard, par three 12th hole, then added another birdie on the 14th. He also posted a pair of birdies on the front nine, needing three strokes to birdie the 339-yard third hole and four shots on the longest hole of the course, the 525-yard eight pin. Schwarz birdied the same par five in round two.

THE UPPERCLASSMAN

RMU's lone senior, Chase Miller, carded a 73 in his first round of the season before finishing at 77 in round two. Miller opened the year with a birdie on the 10th, a 352-yard par four, and also finished with a pair of other birdies on the round.

THE ALBATROSS

RMU had plenty of success on the longest hole of the course Monday, and probably no one more so than sophomore Skyler Fox. In round two on the 525-yard par five eighth hole, Fox carded a double eagle. Fox posted a score of 75 in round two, shaving three strokes off his first round, and enters Tuesday's final round with a score of 153.
