Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU golf team concluded play in the Bucknell Fall Invitational Tuesday in Lewisburg, Pa., finishing second at Bucknell Golf Club. The Colonials posted a 291 in the third and final round at Bucknell Golf Club to finish at 866 (+26), trailing only Rider, which finished at 858 (+18) after notching a 281 Tuesday.
BREAK ON THROUGH
Senior
Josh Nagy finished up a virtuoso performance on the links Tuesday, taking home his first individual championship after finishing the third round with a 66 (-4) and holding off a late charge by Jack Urban of Rider for medalist honors. Urban, who carded a 65 (-5) Tuesday and was tied with Nagy at one-under late, bogeyed No. 18, a 383-yard par four. Nagy, who finished with six birdies during the round, birdied No. 17 and posted par on the final round to finish at 208 (-2), two strokes ahead of Urban. Nagy led the field when playing a par three, finishing three-under and averaging 2.80 strokes, and is the first RMU student-athlete to earn medalist honors since
Chris Sabol (2018-22) won the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational with a 148 in March of 2021.
REWRITTEN
Thanks to his 208, Nagy broke his own school record for a 54-hole total, which he established last year at the
Towson Fall Invitational when he finished at 209 and finished second individually. Three times in the last five years a member of the Colonials has established a new program standard in a 54-hole tournament, with fifth-year
Chase Miller originally owning the mark of 210 that he set at the Northern Kentucky Fall Collegiate Classic in 2018.
THE FIELD
Trailing Rider and RMU and rounding out the top five was Holy Cross (871), Mount St. Mary's (873) and Towson and Youngstown State, as each carded an 874. Cornell (878) claimed seventh and was followed by Sacred Heart (880) and Saint Francis U and Bucknell (881) to round out the top 10. RMU's 866 ranks third in program history and is the second of those three to come at Bucknell Golf Club. Last season the Colonials finished at 860 (+20) in the same invitational, which established the school record for a 54-hole tournament total.
THE LINEUP
In addition to medalist honors for Nagy, senior
Alex Seelig tied for 10th individually, recording a 74 Tuesday and finishing at 216 (+6) overall. He was one of four student-athletes to finish at 216, joining Julian Gonzalez of Towson, Thomas Webb of SFU and Hank Schaefer from the Mount. Senior
Logan Hess carded a 75 in the final round and finished at 218 (+8) overall, while fifth-year
Chase Miller posted a 76 in the third round and settled at 224 (+14) for the tournament.
