Indianapolis, Ind. – The Robert Morris University men's soccer team trio of junior
Kelvin Ramirez, sophomore
Bryan Akongo, and freshman
Victor Koah earned Horizon League postseason accolades, announced by the league office Friday evening.
Ramirez and Akongo were both named to the All-League Second Team, while Koah was selected to the All-Freshman Team. The three honorees are the most for Robert Morris since 2018, when it saw three players recognized by the Northeast Conference (NEC).
Ramirez picks up his second postseason accolade from the Horizon League after being named to the All-Academic Team earlier this week. The native of Toronto, Ontario, has started in 14 games this fall as a defender, while carding two goals this season. Ramirez tallied his first goal of the year against Northern Kentucky, which ended up being the game-winner before scoring again the following week at Milwaukee. The Toronto product has helped the Colonials backl ine sit second in the conference in fewest goals allowed this season.
A product of London, England, Akongo earns his first plaudit of his career from the league, while appearing in 12 games and making nine starts for the Colonials. He tallied one goal and one assist for three points as a midfielder for Robert Morris. Akongo carded his first goal of the season in late September, when he got RMU on the board and knotted the score, 1-1 at Oakland. The England native registered his first assist when he dribbled down the left side of the field, getting into the box and putting a pass to the far-right post that found the left foot of Koah, in a 5-0 shutout over IUPUI. Akongo has recorded 14 shots, which is good for third on the team.
Koah is the second Colonial in the last two seasons to be named to the All-Freshman Team, joining teammate
Noé Bijou. The Thornton Heath, England native has appeared in all 15 games with seven starts as a midfielder/defender for RMU. He sits third on the team with six points after registering two goals and two assists. Koah tallied his first career assist in a 2-1 win over Northern Kentucky before registering his first NCAA goal in a 2-1 victory at VMI, which was the game-winning goal. The following game he carded his second assist in a 2-0 shutout over Detroit Mercy before finding the back of the net against IUPUI in a 5-0 victory to end the regular season. Koah is one of two freshmen on the team to have multiple goals this fall and leads all freshmen with his six points.
Robert Morris earned a spot in the Horizon League Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will travel to the No. 4 seed Oakland for a quarterfinal match on Sunday, November 6, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
