Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU golf team opened its 2022 spring campaign Saturday with the first round of the Carpetbagger Classic in Urbana, Md., at Worthington Manor Golf Club. The Colonials fired a score of 294 (+6), which sits second out of 14 teams.
THE LEADERBOARD
Rhode Island sits three strokes ahead of RMU in the 7,034-yard course, which owns a par of 72, after finishing at 291 (+3) Saturday. Rounding out the top five is Bryant (296), Howard (298) and Fairleigh Dickinson (299). Sitting sixth is Towson (302), while the host, Colgate (302), is seventh. Tied for eighth is Cornell and Colgate B (304), while Binghamton (307) is 10th.
JUST JOSHING
Individually, junior
Josh Nagy fired a 69 (-3) Saturday, his fourth round during the 2021-22 season in which he has posted a score below 70. He sits in a tie for first with Brandon Gillis of Rhode Island. Also finishing under par in the first round of the Carpetbagger Classic was Leon Heitz of Rhode Island, who carded a 71 (-1) and sits third individually.

RMU remains in striking distance for its first tournament win of the 2021-22 campaign thanks to contributions from senior
Chase Miller and sophomore
Xavier Schwarz. Both finished with a round of 74 (+2) Saturday, two of 11 individuals that sit in a tie for 11th individually. Junior
Logan Hess finished at 77 (+5) in the first round, while junior
Alex Seelig posted a 78 (+6). Playing as an individual for the Colonials is junior
Parker Johnson, who carded a 79 (+7).
