Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU track & field team opened action in the Benson / Hodge Memorial Invitational Friday, hosted by the Colonials at the P3R Track & Field Complex at the RMU Island Sports Center on Neville Island.

Yessie Valencia, who earned the crown Friday in the hammer throw for the Colonials. She notched a distance of 51.53 (169'1") meters, just barely knocking off her teammate, fifth-year
Keturah Hunter. For Valencia, the distance in the hammer is a personal best and ranks second in the Horizon League. Hunter finished with a toss of 51.43 (168'9") meters to finish second Friday. Hunter sits atop the #HLTF leaderboard in the hammer throw thanks to a mark 54.93 meters (180'2") in the outdoor opener at Carnegie Mellon (3/25).

Estelle Katende, junior
Alijah Caul and senior
Taylor Mears each garnered top 10 finishes. Katende claimed seventh at 41.24 meters (135'4"), Caul finished ninth at 37.49 meters (123'0") and Mears placed 10th at 37.14 meters (121'10"). Rookie
Maizee Fry, competing unattached, finished eighth at 38.51 meters (126'4"), while sophomore
Alana Palmer rounded out the field for the Colonials in the event with a throw of 35.95 meters (117'11").

Freshman
Zoee Gologram earned bronze Friday in the javelin, posting a distance of 33.93 meters (111'4"), while junior
Lauren Chappell tied for fourth in the high jump at 1.45 meters (4'9") with Sadie Leisinger of Clarion.
TRACK IT DOWN
In the 1,500-meter, freshman
Maddie Kinton earned a top 10 finish in the event, placing ninth thanks to a time of 5:35.29.
UP NEXT
RMU returns to the P3R Track & Field Complex to conclude the Benson/Hodge Memorial Invitational Saturday. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m. and the women's 4x100-meter relay opens competition on the track at Noon.
