Deep Threats Lift Raiders Over Colonials

Simone Morris records her first career double-double.

Moon Township, Pa. – The Colonials on Saturday afternoon fell to the Raiders, 83-49. RMU is now 8-13 (.381) overall, and 2-10 (.200) in the Horizon League.
 
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Opening the game up, the Colonials put together two baskets by Alejandra Mastral and Rebecca Dwomoh. Shortly after the Raiders went on a 14-0 run to climb ahead 19-4. Wright State shot very well from distance as they went 5-for-11 shooting 45.5% from behind the arc. At the end of the first quarter, WSU pulled ahead 27-10.
 
Going on a 10-0 run in the second quarter, WSU continued to shoot well from behind the arc. The visiting team put together five more three-pointers and scored 21 points in the second frame. RMU registered 12 points and finished the half being down 48-22.
 
In the start of the second half WSU went on another 14-0 run to gain their biggest lead of the game. After 30 minutes of play, Wright State remained ahead 68-34.
 
The fourth quarter was the best quarter played by the Colonials on Saturday. The box score showed a 15-15 draw during those ten minutes of play. RMU started to draw more fouls and get to the line, making 5-of-7 from the charity stripe. In the end, Wright State won 83-49.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Sophomore Simone Morris recorded her first double-double of her career. The Californian native posted 14 points and 10 rebounds, and added two blocks. "Simone was a guard last year," said head coach Charlie Buscaglia. "She went to the forward position this year and I'm proud of her for that because there was no hesitation and she accepted whatever the team needs and is always willing to help." Morris is the second Colonial to record a double-double this season as Gedeon has registered eight on the year. Throughout the 2022-23 season, Morris has provided the teams highest point total in four games and the most rebounds in three games.
 
Danielle Vuletich also added 14 points, and was close to her first career double-double, grabbing eight boards. Leading the team in assists was both Alejandra Mastral and Louella Allana with three.
 
Overall, as a team the Colonials shot well from the free-throw line making 8-for-10 (80%). Wright State scored 12 three-pointers and shot 44% on the day from the field.
 
MILESTONE UPDATE

  • After producing a double-double, Simone Morris has now scored over 100 field goals in her career.
  • The Spaniard Alejandra Mastral now owns over 100 rebounds in her career.
