Opening Face-Off
- The Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team officially returns to home ice this weekend to host Saint Anselm for a two-game series. The home opener will be played at the Clearview Arena inside the RMU Island Sports Center.
- Last time out, the Colonials came away with one win and one loss in a series at Union.
- In game two against the Garnet Chargers, RMU picked up their first victory of the season as sophomore Morgan Giannone on a breakaway, scored the game-winner in overtime to win, 3-2.
- Heading into a new season, RMU's coaching staff brought in 10 freshmen and nine transfers, along with six members of the team from last year's roster.
- Head coach Logan Bittle and his staff named graduate defenseman Allyson Hebert and Wasyn Rice as Co-Captains of the team. Also, on the roster, Chloé Puddifant, Emma Gorski and Madison Primeau were tabbed Alternate Captains for the upcoming season.
- In RMU's most recent season, back in 2020-21, the Colonials put forth a historic season, finishing 16-8-1 overall and 11-7-1 in conference play. The program won the CHA Championship, taking down RIT, 4-0 in the quarterfinal round. Then beating Mercyhurst in OT, 3-2 in the semifinal game. And, winning the championship game, 1-0 over Syracuse in Erie, Pa. to take home RMU's third CHA trophy in program history.

The All-Time Series vs. Saint Anselm – Saturday's game will be the very first meeting between these two programs. Saint Anselm will make the trip to Moon Township to face-off against the Colonials for the first time. They're a private Benedictine liberal arts college located in Goffstown, New Hampshire.

Scouting the Hawks – Last year, Saint Anselm finished 18-17-4 overall and were 14-6-4 in conference games. Playing in the NEWHA conference, they qualified for the playoffs, making a run all the way to the final. In a best-of-three series in the quarterfinal round, they took down Saint Michael's in game three, winning 3-2 in overtime. Facing Stonehill in the semifinal round, the Hawks advanced to the final with a 4-2 victory. Their season concluded with a 2-0 loss to LIU in East Meadow, N.Y. in the championship game.
So far this year, they're 0-2-0 with two losses this past weekend. They fell to Merrimack, 2-3 and then dropped a 1-6 game at home against New Hampshire. Senior forward Maddy McCaffery is the team-leader in goals with two. Madi Ressler and Tyra Turner both own a team-high two assists up to date. In goal, freshman Courtney Stagman has started both games, owning a 4.52 GAA and .885 save percentage. She's made 69 saves so far in the 2023-24 campaign.Â

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Already after the opening series on the road, two Colonials were awarded with Player of the Week honors by the CHA conference. Sophomore
Morgan Giannone produced two points in both games. The first night at Union she dished out two helpers and in game two, she scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game and push it to overtime. In OT, she scored the game-winner on the backhand to total four points on the weekend, earning Offensive Player of the Week. Awarded Defensive Player of the Week, graduate defenseman Chloé Puddifant scored one goal and one assist to get the award.

BITTLE THE BENCH BOSS
In his first year as head coach of the program,
Logan Bittle earned his first victory as the bench boss of RMU women's hockey. A former player of the men's team when the program began, he won 59 games from 2004-08. Coaching as an assistant and associate head coach for the Colonials from 2010 to 2021, Bittle earned 189 wins as a member of the coaching staff. In total, he's been a part of 249 wins in his time at RMU. He is now one win away from 250.
