RMU Trio Earn Academic Accolades From GCAA

Hess, Miller, Seelig each named 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholars

Moon Township, Pa. – A trio of student-athletes from the RMU golf team were honored for their work in the classroom Wednesday, as Logan Hess, Chase Miller and Alex Seelig were each named Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) 2022-23 Division I All-America Scholars.

For Hess, the 2023 honor is the first of his career, while Miller and Seelig each garner the accolade for the second time. Miller was also named a 2020 GCAA Division I All-America Scholar, while Seelig takes home the award for the second consecutive year.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, a student-athlete must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds and have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I. A recipient must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 and also must be of high moral character and in good standing at their college or university.

Hess, a sport management major and part of the accelerated program at RMU, posted a 3.53 undergraduate GPA and owns a 3.50 GPA as a graduate student. He posted a scoring average of 75.7 strokes per round during the 2022-23 season.

Miller is also part of the accelerated program at RMU and posted a cumulative GPA of 3.20 as an undergrad and owns a 3.33 GPA as a grad student. He is a finance major and finished third for the Colonials during the 2022-23 campaign with an average score of 74.9. Miller is also the only student-athlete in program history to play 100 career rounds for the Colonials.

In earning his second consecutive GCAA Division I All-America Scholar, Seelig, a sport management major who is also in the accelerated program at RMU, posted a 3.11 undergraduate GPA while possessing a 3.66 GPA in graduate school. Seelig finished second for the Colonials during the 2022-23 season with an average score of 74.5.

A total of 546 NCAA Division I student-athletes from 193 institutions earned 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholar status.
