Rising senior earns his first All-America Scholar award from GCAA

Moon Township, Pa. – Rising senior Alex Seelig of the RMU golf team was named a 2021-22 Srixon/Cleveland Golf NCAA Division I All-America Scholar it was announced Thursday.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA I, II, III and NAIA or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility at the NJCAA level.

In addition, the student-athlete must participate in at least 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a streak average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale during the academic year. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Seelig, a native of Reading, Pa., and a sport management major, recorded a GPA of 3.26 during the 2021-22 academic year. On the course, he played the most rounds (22) of any student-athlete for RMU during the season, producing an average score of 75.0. He posted one top 10 finish, tying for seventh at the Carpetbagger Classic, March 19-20, 2022, with a score of 149.

A total of 440 NCAA Division I student-athletes from 157 institutions earned 2021-22 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status.

Led by head coach Jerry Stone, who will enter his 23rd year at the helm of the program in 2022-23, RMU has won 23 competitions and made a pair of NCAA Regionals (2015, 2019).
