Opening Face-Off
- The Colonials officially return to the ice tomorrow and on Saturday at Union College. In the two-game series, the first game is to be played on Friday, September 29 at 6:00 p.m. and the following day at 3:00 p.m.
- Heading into a new season, RMU's coaching staff brought in 10 freshmen and nine transfers, along with six members of the team from last year's roster.
- Head coach Logan Bittle and his staff recently tabbed graduate defenseman Allyson Hebert and Wasyn Rice as Co-Captains of the squad. Chloé Puddifant, Emma Gorski and Madison Primeau were named Alternate Captains for the upcoming season.
- In RMU's most recent season, back in 2020-21, the Colonials put forth a historic season, finishing 16-8-1 overall and 11-7-1 in conference play. The program won the CHA Championship, taking down RIT, 4-0 in the quarterfinal round. Then beating Mercyhurst in overtime, 3-2 in the semifinal game. And, winning the championship game, 1-0 over Syracuse in Erie. Pa. to take home Robert Morris's third CHA trophy in program history.

The All-Time Series vs. Union – Through program history, RMU is 4-1-1 all-time against Union. The most recent series came in the 2019-20 season, as RMU won both games, 5-0 and 6-1. Some current RMU defenseman contributed offensively in the series win.
Gillian Thompson recorded two assists and Captain
Allyson Hebert provided one helper. Before the most recent series, the last time the Colonials faced the Garnet Chargers was almost 20 years ago in the 2006-07 and 2005-06 season. In 06-07, across two games the Colonials exploded offensively to win 3-2 and 7-2. Their only loss and tie against the opposing program happened in RMU's inaugural season with both games ending in overtime. After full-time in the first contest, the match ended in a 2-2 draw, and the second game was lost in OT, 2-3. Across six games, RMU is out scoring Union, 25-10.

Scouting the Garnet Chargers – After the end of last year's campaign, Union finished with a 11-22-1 overall record and were 4-17-1 in the ECACH conference. Offensively, as a freshman last year, Riley Walsh posted the most goals (15) and most points (22) on the team. Celeste Beaudoin and Stephanie Bourque provided the most assists with 11 each. In net, Sophie Matsoukas played most of the games, starting in 34 of them. She owned a .906 save percentage and 3.33 G.A.A. Overall, she reached over 1,000 saves on the year with 1,003 and earned 11 wins.

So far during the current campaign, Union has dropped two games to #13 St. Cloud State, 1-6 and 0-4. Riley Walsh scored the lone goal for their program. Kendal Davidson and Emily King each have an assist. Goaltenders Sophie Matsoukas and Monja Wagner both played one game. Matsoukas made 30 saves and allowed six goals, and Wagner stopped 34 shots, allowing four goals.

THE BITTLE ERA
Logan Bittle was named head coach of the RMU women's hockey program March 3, 2022. No stranger to RMU hockey, however, as both a former student-athlete and coach, Bittle will be in his first season leading the Colonials when they return to the ice in 2023-24.

A native of Peoria, Ill., he returns to RMU after spending the last year as head coach of the Pens Elite 19U Girls Prep and 16U Girls teams. Prior to joining Pens Elite, Bittle spent a decade at RMU, the first four as an assistant coach and the last six as an associate head coach from 2010-2021.

Bittle is a 2008 graduate of RMU. He was a member of the first team in Colonial's history in 2004-05 and owns the distinction of recording an assist in the program's first-ever game-winning goal. He appeared in 126 games during his four-year career with the Colonials, scoring 52 points (20g, 32a).

Also, on the staff, Liam Cavanagh, a native of Nova Scotia, returns for his second stint with the Colonials. He previously spent three years as the Director of Hockey Operations for the women's hockey program. Cavanagh helped the Colonials post a 57-34-14 record across his three years and helped the program make three-straight appearances in the College Hockey America Championship game, while winning back-to-back CHA regular season titles in 2018-19.

New to RMU, Jordan Lipson joins the staff for her first season as an assistant coach. Lipson previously spent a season at Lindenwood University, overseeing the defense. In her playing career at Plattsburgh State, she was a part of a storied history, winning four NCAA National Championships and four ECAC West Championships from 2014-2017.

From the state of Pennsylvania, out of Stroudsburg, Patrick Barry was the latest addition to the women's hockey coaching staff, being named the Hockey Operations Coordinator. Barry completed his four years of undergrad at Penn State, while taking on an important role for the Nittany Lions. He was the team's head film manager and student manager.
