MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's hockey team dropped their first Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) game of the season, losing 7-3 to Niagara on Friday night. The Colonials now stand at 2-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
FIRST PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Niagara opened the scoring seven minutes into the game with an unassisted goal by Nathan Oickle.
- RMU outshot Niagara 13-9 in the first period, though neither team had a power-play opportunity.
SECOND PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Niagara scored two quick goals, including one on the power-play, extending their lead to 3-0.
- Midway through the period, Mitch Deelstra responded with his first goal for RMU on a power-play, assisted by Luke van Why and Trent Wilson.
- However, Niagara regained momentum, scoring two more goals to close the period with a 5-1 lead.
- Both teams recorded 11 shots in the second period, with Niagara converting both their power-play chances.
THIRD PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- RMU continued to push in the third period, adding two goals in quick succession.
- Cody Monds scored his first goal as a Colonial, assisted by Michael Felsing.
- Moments later, Felsing scored his first career goal from a faceoff scramble, with assists by Monds and Deelstra.
- Despite RMU's efforts, Niagara scored two more goals in the final minutes, closing the game with a 7-3 victory.
