MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team returns to conference play this weekend, taking on Syracuse in a two-game series. The Colonials will hit the ice Friday, December 6, at 6:00 PM and close out the series on Saturday, December 7, at 3:00 PM. Both matchups will stream live on FloHockey.
RECENT FORM
RMU (5-10-1, 0-5-1 AHA) is seeking its first conference victory as the team resumes action following a two-week break. Junior
Morgan Giannone leads the Colonials offensively with 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists). Graduate forward
Veronica Bac tops the team in goals scored with six, while senior
Mya Neugent, tied with Giannone, has dished out six assists. Between the pipes,
Maggie Hatch has been a stalwart, starting 11 games, recording four wins, one shutout, and a strong .931 save percentage.
LEADING THE NATION IN BLOCKS
The Colonials have excelled defensively, leading the nation in blocked shots with 310, averaging 19.38 blocks per game. Captain
Allyson Hebert has been at the forefront, leading the AHA with 48 blocks so far this season.
SERIES HISTORY
RMU holds a 28-23-9 all-time record against Syracuse, dating back to 2008. Last season, the Colonials won three of four matchups in the regular season. Standout performances in those games included
Morgan Giannone (2 goals, 1 assist),
Mya Neugent (3 assists), and
Catriona Crarer (1 goal, 2 assists). Defenseman
Thalia D'Elia made headlines by netting her first career overtime goal on the road against the Orange.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse (5-12-0, 3-3-0 AHA) enters the series after a tough sweep at the hands of #5 Colgate. In conference play, the Orange have three wins in six games. Graduate forward Bryn Saarela leads Syracuse in points (11), tallying five goals and six assists. Forward Charli Kettyle has also been a key contributor with five goals, including a team-best three on the power play. Defensively, Syracuse boasts three players with 27 or more blocked shots. Goaltender Allie Kelley has started all 16 games, earning four wins, two shutouts, and a .919 save percentage.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Colonials will wrap up the calendar year with a non-conference series at LIU on December 13-14.
