RMU Men's Soccer Talents Illuminate Semi-Professional Scene in 2024

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU men's soccer and head coach Jonathan Potter announced 10 student-athletes participating with semi-professional teams for the summer of 2024.

"This summer promises to be an exciting chapter for our players as they continue to compete at a high level before we return in the fall," said Potter.

STEEL CITY FC: A Local Affair
Five Colonials, including Gabe Norris, William Dodzi Afawubo, Anass Hadran, Kai McLoughlin and Victor Koah have embraced the opportunity to represent Pittsburgh's National Premier Soccer League organization, Steel City FC. Notably, RMU captains Norris and Afawubo return for their second consecutive season, infusing their leadership into the squad.

Steel City FC recently qualified for the esteemed 2024 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament. This was the club's debut in the national tournament, as their first match was against Michigan Stars FC.

USL 2: Development Back Home
Four RMU players secured coveted spots in the USL 2 Division, sponsored by United Soccer Leagues in the United States and Canada. Formed in 1995, the league coincides with the USL Championship that the Pittsburgh Riverhounds organization competes in.

Senior Chase Gilley and junior John Paul Mbuthia return to their home state to bolster Charlotte Independence 2, while Connor Hain brings his talents to Cleveland Force in his native state of Ohio.

And, incoming graduate defender Darren Gray heads south for the summer joining FC Florida.

USL 2: Global Reach
German defenders Tim Koczulap and Fabian Overkamp will also embark on a journey in the USL 2 Division. Koczulap joins Brevard SC in Florida and Overkamp heads north to New York, competing with FC Buffalo.

OVPL: Hometown
And, from Columbus, Ohio, freshman defender Wil Hornbaker joins the Columbus Force. In his hometown, Hornbaker and his club will face organizations across the Ohio Valley Premier League.

"We're excited for this group of young men to return this fall and help lead our team in the Horizon League." said Potter.
