Three RMU Women's Hockey Alums Sign Professional Contracts

Burbidge, Fiala and Kollman begin pro career in Switzerland

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU women's hockey alums Maggy Burbidge, Joelle Fiala and Courtney Kollman have signed professional contracts with teams in the Swiss Women's Hockey League (SWHL).
 
Burbidge, enters into a contract with HC Fribourg-Gottéron. She spent two seasons at RMU from 2019-21, appearing in 60 contests, producing 16 goals and 16 assists.
 
Burbidge led the Colonials to the 2021 CHA Tournament Championship, recording three goals, including two game-winning tallies and an assist on the game-winner against Syracuse in the championship game.
 
"When I reflect on my time at RMU, I'm beyond grateful for the friendships and memories I've made with the amazing people that are part of the RMU hockey community," said Burbidge. "They helped me develop as a hockey player and as a person which ultimately had an impact on me taking the next step to further my hockey career at the professional level. I'm excited for what's to come in Fribourg next year. Forever, I'm a Colonial."
 
Fiala, who played two seasons at RMU from 2019-21, has signed with HC Davos. She played two seasons at RMU from 2019-21. During her time as a Colonial, she registered five goals and 18 assists over 61 games and was also a member of the 2021 CHA Tournament Championship team.
 
"The experiences RMU brought me were very memorable," said Fiala. "It's amazing how much hockey has given me in my life. I hope the women's leagues continue growing and give younger girls bigger and better opportunities."
 
Kollman joins Fiala, signing with HC Davos. Across two seasons with the Colonials from 2018 to 2020, Kollman dressed for 72 games posting five goals and 11 assists.
 
"Getting to play professional hockey has always been a dream of mine," said Kollman. "Having the opportunity to go to Switzerland and be a part of a great program in Davos is pretty special. I met so many amazing people in my time at RMU and made memories I will never forget."
 
Both Fiala and Kollman will reunite with alum Leah Marino who played this past year with HC Davos.
 
On reconnecting with her teammates, Kollman stated, "I'm super excited to play with Joelle again and start this adventure over in Europe together."
 
"Courtney and I became great friends and line mates at RMU but I never thought we'd get the chance to play together again," said Fiala. "Experiencing Europe with Courtney as a professional athlete is surreal."
 
Since 2005, the program has developed 30 student-athletes to play professionally.
