On February 6th, Will Baggett, award winning major events sports administrator, author and former collegiate strength coach, brought energy, enthusiasm and inspiration to student-athletes where he discussed the ABC's of etiquette and overall executive image tips. Over 230 student-athletes attended the Student-Athlete Development Event, the highest-attended event of the year.
Baggett engaged athletes from the start, inviting them to pair up and participate in a partner activity, observing body language, tone, dynamics and more.Â
Baggett continued with his personal story, including his time working the Super Bowl, and presenting to the Detroit Lions, SEC, Alabama, LSU, the NCAA and many others. With personal examples, thought-provoking activities, and intriguing group conversation, athletes learned how Appearance, Behavior, Communication, Digital Etiquette, and Emotional Intelligence can affect the way that they are viewed.Â
Kendall Veach from RMU's rowing team volunteered to demonstrate her public speaking skills on the group chosen topic – Stevie Wonder. Through support and encouragement, Baggett taught her, and the entire group how to pause, collect your thoughts and move forward before getting stuck on filler words.Â
The session concluded with student-athletes taking the time to introduce themselves to our speaker, and debriefing on the event. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive and we are looking forward to seeing RMU athletes apply these new professional skills across campus and the community.Â
