RMU Men's Hockey Announces 2024-25 Schedule

Colonials slated to play 34-game campaign

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's hockey team released its schedule for the 2024-25 season, head coach Derek Schooley announced Tuesday.

The Colonials are slated to play a 34-game campaign, which includes 26 Atlantic Hockey America contests.

RMU begins the season with a trio of exhibition matches. The first at Bowling Green (October 10) and the next two against Simon Fraser and USA Hockey's U18 National Team (October 11-12).

"We're thankful to be able to open the season with exhibition games on the road at Bowling Green and then at the US National Development Program in Plymouth, Mich., which is the pinnacle of USA Hockey's amateur player development program," stated Schooley. "The USNTDP had 13 players drafted this past weekend at the NHL draft including two first round NHL Draft picks."

Starting up non-conference play, RMU's regular season opener will be at Miami (Ohio) on Thursday, October 17. RMU wraps up the series at Clearview Arena for their home opener on Saturday, October 19.

"Our non-conference schedule is highlighted by some outstanding opponents including a regular season home-and-home series against Miami University," said Schooley.

The following weekend, the Colonials begin conference play with a home-and-home series against Niagara (October 25-26).

Heading into November, RMU hosts Lindenwood (November 1-2), plays a single game at Mercyhurst (November 15) and a series at Sacred Heart (November 15-16).

Later in the month, the Colonials travel out to a top program in North Dakota (November 22-23) and wrap up November welcoming conference member AIC (November 29-30).

Entering December, RMU finishes out 2024 with two conference series on the road at RIT (December 6-7) and at Canisius (December 14-15).

Beginning 2025, the Colonials will compete in the ASU Desert Classic. RMU begins the tournament against Arizona State (January 3) and will play UMass or Cornell the following day.

"We're excited to take a trip to a national powerhouse in North Dakota and also compete in a New Year's tournament at the ASU Classic," said Schooley.

For the remainder of the campaign, RMU will play 15 consecutive games against AHA opponents.

On January 10-11, the Colonials travel out to Holy Cross for a two-game series.

Then, RMU enters a seven-game homestand, hosting Canisius (January 14), RIT (January 17-18), Army (January 24-25) and Mercyhurst (January 31-February 1).

The Colonials then play three more games on the road with a series at Bentley (February 7-8) and a home-and-home series with the Purple Eagles, starting at Niagara (February 14-15).

Closing out the regular season, RMU welcomes Air Force to Moon Township on February 21-22. Senior Day will be on Saturday, February 22 at 7:00 PM.

"We're really excited about our schedule," said Schooley. "Our AHA rivalries are highlighted by two home games against in-state rival Mercyhurst and the return this season of both Military Academies (Army & Air Force) to the newly renovated Clearview Arena at the RMU Island Sports Center."

The 2025 AHA postseason will start with first-round games on Saturday, March 1, followed by a best-of-three quarterfinal round (March 8-10) and the semifinal round (March 15-17). The AHA Championship game is scheduled for March 22. All games will be played at the rink of the higher-seed.
